Sandwich Design_Crab/Gift/Ice-Cream Cone

Made these for breakfast yesterday. Was inspired by a book titled "Funky Lunches" which I borrowed from the library.

Made crab, ice-cream cone and a gift sandwiches while the kids were asleep. There were no fillings in the sandwich yet, the girls decided on what they would like to have in their sandwich when they were at the dining table.

Crab: Cheese smile and eye, eyeballs were chocolate chips, seaweed for eyebrows
Ice-cream cone: real chocolate chip on one of the scoops, plus a seaweed wafer stick.

Gift: Cheese bow and star sprinkles

Sandwich cutter

Latest "toy"!

Couldn't resist getting this coz I thought that it would really save on the extra bread cut outs. Usually if I use the cookie cutter to get the shapes, there are bond to have extras, which eventually have to end up in this mummy's tummy. (sigh need to keep watch of my waistline as I get older).

Here's Buttercup trying her hands at it - i was smiling to myself, as she looked like she had to work very hard for her breakfast this day hehehe

How's the final product? There is an elelphant, terrier, car and a whale.

Bento #32 and #33

Bento #32: Breakfast last Saturday - ham sandwiches, grapes, butter cookies. Love the butter cookies, it is a no-brand type which brings back fond memories when I was a kid....from those market stalls selling biscuits/cookies by weight.
Bento #33: This was a "bento" done by Bubbles, who is only 5 yrs old. I think she has some talent in this! This is actually porridge, served with a simple omelette in the shape of a heart, with peas and fishcake slices.
*sorry, don't know why the photo orientation cannot be right, tried a few times!

Healthy breakfast

Hopefully a healthier breakfast: oats with mini hot dog bun plus a traditional chinese kueh (nowadays the kids don't fancy it though, ended in my tummy)

Bento #17

This was breakfast on Saturday. The gals love the Pooh and Tigger sandwiches and cheese slices. Buttercup could recognise them very easily so the cookie cutter/mould was something well spent. The moon sandwiches were there coz I didn't want to waste the bread after cutting out the Pooh and Tigger. They were either Nutella or just plain butter sandwiches, but they are favourites of the gals. Placed some Ritz biscuits and strawberries to complete the meal.

Mickey sandwiches

Bubbles asked for ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast on Saturday (yes, this is a backlog post). They were thrilled to see the Mickey and Minnie sandwiches. Buttercup asked me if Mickey and Minnie were looking at the stars? I guess so. Or probably they were like me, seeing stars already! Lack of sleep last night.

Served the princesses the cutouts plus freshly squeezed orange juice. They asked to go for a dip in the pool. Since they were so good in finishing their breakfast, I happily obliged. Anyway I will not get any chance to go back to bed once the gals are up.

Pancakes

This was a breakfast made on one of the Saturday mornings. Usually it is the only breakfast time I am at home and able to make for my family. Made some pancakes for the gals. They really loved the mickey mouse shapes best. Then the stars and the hearts. Didn't have maple syrup in the fridge, but they made do with honey and loads of butter. It is really strange, my gals love butter lots! They can scoop it and eat it on its own. Or when they think you are not looking, their fingers (instead of knifes or forks) can also do the act! I have to keep my cool when they have butter/margarine with their breakfast. If not careful, the whole tub would be "contaminated" with their saliva... :P
Here's two more in the making. Simple stuff for breakfast.

Watermelon cookies

Blossom and Bubbles did not have school yesterday. We had a beary good breakfast of ham and cheese sandwich! They were cut in the shapes of bears.

The afternoon was long, I always think so when I am home. Inspired by Pure Enjoyment's success at baking watermelon cookies, and since the two gals were restless, I promised them to make some too. They were really excited about getting to knead dough again. I was more worried about the cleaning up. Blossom can now read recipes for me, and it was a good opportunity for her to learn the different types of measurements, scales and ingredients. She was pretty good at telling me what the ingredients we have to get and the next step to do.

The making of the watermelon cookies were pretty tedious. The dough had to be divided into three portions and two portions were coloured red and green. The red ball of dough had to be wrapped in uncoloured dough, then afterwhich wrapped in green dough. It was a little difficult feat for my gals, so I ended up doing most of the wrapping. But they had fun cutting up the doughball into 6 pieces of "watermelon" and putting the "seeds" on.

Here is the result:

I thought the colour looked really lovely after the baking. The rough surfaces really made it looked like a real watermelon wedge.

Here's the tray of dough before it was sent into the oven.
Blossom and Bubbles had even more fun eating the cookies. When Buttercup came home from daycare, she was served some cookies. And she asked for seconds. And she asked for somemore even during dinnertime.
